Kolkata : The Government of India has undertaken a massive cleanliness drive in order to achieve a goal of Clean India. As part of this campaign, volunteers known as ‘Swachhagrahis’ or Ambassadors of Cleanliness have been taking part in the cleanliness drives to accomplish the goal of ‘Nirmal Bharat’. With the rest of India, a massive cleaning drive has been going on in Metro Railway. Metro premises are famous for its cleanliness but Metro authorities are not complacent about that and during the lockdown, massive cleaning and maintenance works have been going on at all Metro stations. Electrical equipment of different stations are being regularly cleaned in this period in order to improve its efficiency as well as keep them ready for resumption of Metro services.
Metro staff acting as ‘Swachhagrahis’ are offering ‘Shramdan” to clean LED fittings , Battery Rooms and LT Panel Rooms at stations.
Apart from this cleaning drive, special emphasis has also been given on the maintenance work of the third rail of North South Metro. This third rail supplies power to the Metro rakes. Fresh coat of paint is being applied on it in order to prevent its corrosion and for beautification.
Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Metro Railway has appreciated this cleaning and maintenance works and expressed his hope that this ‘Shramdan’ during the lockdown will improve passenger amenities when Metro services resume.
